A Natural Anti-dandruff Shampoo Bar!

Dandruff is unsightly, embarrassing, itchy, and just plain unwanted really. So how do you prevent and treat it? There are a number of ways people choose to do this. However, we at Totally Balmy HQ prefer to keep it as simple and natural as possible. Meet our anti-dandruff shampoo bar.

What’s in it?

Our anti-dandruff shampoo has been formulated with tea-tree, peppermint, and rosemary. All three of these essential oils help in the fight against dandruff. Rosemary is said to be both anti-inflammatory and antibacterial in nature. It is written that rosemary stimulates circulation, which in can combat dandruff, and sometimes hair loss. Secondly, peppermint oil is believed to be useful for soothing skin, and acting as a natural antiseptic. Both excellent qualities when it comes to your scalp! Lastly, tea-tree is reported to be useful in a manner of ways; as a hair tonic to combat dandruff and restore the balance of oils and prevent greasy hair. It’s also said to help fight skin infections, and acts as an antiseptic. This bar contains neem oil as part of the base recipe.

Neem oil?

Neem oil has been used for thousands of years for it’s medicinal properties. It’s widely used in the garden, as an insect repellent, in medicine, and in skin care. Neem oil naturally repels insects including lice, ticks, and fleas, and is great at helping to soothe an irritated itchy scalp.

Why should you try it?

  • It has an unusual smell, though not unpleasant (At least I don’t think so!). Contains no artificial ingredients/scents
  • You can use the same bar on you and your children, so no need to buy separate products
  • This is about as natural as you can get
  • These bars are handmade, and tested on myself and my family (My kids don’t mind the smell at all)
  • Easy to use
  • Affordable
  • The full list of ingredients is shown, so you know what you’re using on your family

So why not give this bar a go? You may find that your scalp loves it. My scalp also loves apple cider vinegar. To find out more, read on!

How do you use it?

Well, you simply wet your hair, hold the bar in your hand, and rub it all over your hair. It will lather nicely this way.

As for a conditioning treatment, maybe try an acid rinse. Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with around 250mls of water. Once you’ve washed and rinsed your hair, tip this solution over you head, and leave for 1-2 minutes. Do this maybe twice a week for the first couple of weeks, then less as time goes on. This will prevent any build up of soap, and leave your hair shiny. This should also deter dandruff if this is an issue for you.

You can also use this bar on your face and body. However, everybody is different. If you find this bar too drying, perhaps reduce the frequency of use, or try stopping for a wee while.
