Beer & Honey Shampoo (For fine or damaged hair)

Beer & Honey Shampoo is here!

    Beer in shampoo? Absolutely!

Why is it beneficial to put beer in your hair?

    It’s said that beer:

    1. Tightens cuticles of the hair shaft, adding body and lustre
    2. Improves the quality/condition of your hair
    3. Adds lather to the final bar
    4. The proteins in the beer can help repair damaged hair
    5. The B vitamins in the beer add shine to your hair

And here you were thinking drinking beer was the best thing to do!

    What about the honey?

It’s said that honey also adds shine and improves the lather of the final bar. Therefore, it would seem beer and honey go hand in hand in this recipe.

What sort of hair is this shampoo good for?

    • All hair types
    • Damaged hair

Goats Milk and Honey Shampoo (For dry hair)

Our Goats Milk and Honey Shampoo is divine!

Made with local raw honey, and goats milk, also from a Manawatu local. Perhaps this bar should be re-named to ‘Manawatu Shampoo’ – it even rhymes!

    • Raw honey
    • Cocoa butter
    • Castor oil
    • Jojoba oil
    • Olive oil

  • nettle shampoo

Goats Milk and Nettle Shampoo (For oily hair & itchy scalp)

    Goats milk and nettle shampoo

The perfect partnership of goats milk, nettle, and neem oil. These three ingredients work well together to bring you a shampoo bar that is gentle, nourishing, and aimed at helping those who have a sensitive scalp.

Nettle leaf is native to Africa and Western Asia, and has many uses. Nettle is used for medicinal, clothing, culinary, and health & beauty purposes. You can even use it to make beer!

    Who is this shampoo for?

This shampoo was designed for those with oil-prone hair. However, it can be used on all hair types.

Why is nettle leaf used in this shampoo?

It is said that nettle leaf:

    • Calms an itchy, irritated scalp
    • Regulates oil production
    • Reduces inflammation
    • Helps to thicken hair
    • Promotes new hair growth

    Head Lice Comb

    Head Lice, Nits, Critters…

Whatever you call them, we need an effective way to get rid of them. One of the best things you can have in your arsenal is a good quality head lice comb (nit comb).

Maybe you’ll never need to use head lice treatment. That’s the ideal scenario! However, if you have young children, they’re likely to find you at some point.

Hemp Shampoo – For Damaged Hair

Hemp seed oil has many benefits for the skin, and is also a great environmental choice for many reasons.

Ok, so why is hemp seed oil so good for our skin and hair?

    • It’s non-comedogenic (Won’t clog your pores).
    • Non greasy.
    • Helps soothe dryness and itchiness on the scalp, and may deter dandruff.
    • It contains omega’s 3,6, and 9.
    • Contains magnesium, vitamins D and E, which can help stimulate new growth.
    • High in antioxidants that protect cells from damage.
    • Omegas 3 and 6 can help manage hair loss, support hair density, and maintain the thickness of the hair shaft. These are essential fatty acids because your body can’t make these naturally.

    Natural Conditioning Spray

    Natural Conditioning Spray

I’m going to make a broad sweeping generalization and say that most children dislike having their hair washed, combed, or brushed. So, what do you do? They don’t like sitting still for long either I hear you say. Don’t worry, I’m with you!

    Spray and Leave

I’ve been trying this on the smallest member of the Balmy tribe (As she has the longest hair). After almost 2 years, I can now call this a huge success! She used to call this her ‘special spray’. It probably helps that I added raspberry & vanilla fragrance oil, as she happens to love that smell.

As she’s 7 I usually spray it in for her. So all I do is lift her hair a bit and spray 4-5 sprays sporadically around her head, then leave it on for 5 minutes before combing. Job done.

Natural Shampoo Bar (All hair types)

    Shampoo bars!

What’s that? Shampoo in a bar? It’s definitely a ‘thing’. And they’re super easy to use.

Would you like to be more environmentally friendly? Reduce the amount of chemicals you’re using on your body? Try something new? Well, our shampoo bars may be for you!

Made using only ingredients you can pronounce, these bars are gentle on your scalp. They clean your hair without detergent, sodium laurel sufate (SLS), or any other nasty chemicals.

You’ll notice these bars lather really well; as well as other shampoo, and without the potentially harmful chemicals you will find in commercial shampoos. You’ll still get lovely clean hair, though it may take a while to adjust. It takes between one and six weeks for your hair to stop ‘freaking out’ so to speak. Stick with it! It will adjust.

In the meantime, maybe try an acid rinse. Mix a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with around 250mls of water. Once you’ve washed and rinsed your hair, tip this solution over you head, and leave for 1-2 minutes. Do this maybe twice a week for the first couple of weeks, then less as time goes on. This will prevent any build up of soap, and leave your hair shiny. This should also deter dandruff if this is an issue for you.

Shampoo bar ingredients: Olive oil, distilled water, coconut oil, mango butter, sodium hydroxide, castor oil, essential/fragrance oils.

    Lasts for approximately 35 washes

    Natural Tea-Tree Conditioning Spray

    Natural Tea-tree Conditioning Spray

    How Does It Work?

The spray is very handy for kids who hate their hair being combed, brushed, or generally messed with in some way!

This is pretty easy to use. Simply spray this on your child’s head a couple of times a week. The argan oil in the spray helps get brushes and combs through the hair a little easier. However, you will need to give it a good shake first to help mix the oil and water together.

If you use a conditioner as part of your hair-washing regime, just go through your normal routine, and spray this in last. No need to wash out or even comb through. Just spray a few times to get a decent coverage of the head and you’re done!

  • neem shampoo

Neem Oil Shampoo Bar (Dandruff-prone, irritated scalp)

Neem oil shampoo bars are used almost daily in our house

Use these fabulous bars for shaving, washing your body, or washing your hair.

    Neem oil?

Neem oil, extracted from the seeds and fruit of the neem tree, has been used for thousands of years for it’s medicinal properties. It’s widely used in the garden, as an insect repellent, in medicine, and in skin care. It’s said that neem oil naturally repels insects including lice, ticks, and fleas, and is great at helping to soothe an irritated itchy scalp.

Here’s a (non exhaustive) list of why they say neem oil is so fabulous!

    • Antifungal
    • Antibacterial
    • Anti-inflammatory
    • Repels fleas, ticks, and lice
    • Is often referred to as a natural cure for dandruff
    • The oil naturally contains azadirachtin, an insecticidal ingredient, which is said to disrupt the growth and reproduction of head lice
    • Supports healthy hair as it is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, helping to protect your hair from damage

    Solid Conditioning Bar

    Solid Conditioning Bars Are Here!

This product is one many of you have asked about for a couple of years now. Finally it’s here!

It’s basically like the conditioner we’ve traditionally bought in bottles, but in solid form, and with fewer ingredients.

    How Do I Use It?

These conditioning bars are pretty easy to use. I’ve made them a square shape so you can easily differentiate them from the shampoo bars. They’re also a handy size to hold in your hand.

    1. Wet your hair
    2. Shampoo as normal (Or not, if you don’t need to do this as frequently)
    3. Hold the conditioning bar in your hand and glide it through your hair between 3-6 times. This is obviously different for everyone. Trial and error will help you figure out how many strokes work best for you.
    4. Root to tip? I have a shorter hair style. Therefore, I glide it from root to tip. However, if your hair is longer, try conditioning the ends only and see how that works for you.

Well, sometimes we women like to have specialist bars for our face, body, hair etc. Whereas, I have been told (And my husband tells me this too) that men like to have just one bar. An all over soap, shaving, and shampoo bar. Mens soap for the whole body.

And now they can have one. With a twist.

What do you use this bar for?

Practically anything. For those who like to keep it simple, you can use this bar:

    • To wash your face
    • Use it as a shaving bar

    • As a shampoo bar
