    Beer & Oat Soap

    Beer Soap?!

Sure, you’ve heard of drinking beer. But isn’t beer soap a bit of a stretch?

Why? Why would you put beer in soap?!

Excellent question. Well, you need a liquid in the mix to make soap. Most soapers use water. However, you can use many things; water, milk, goats milk, wine, beer…the list goes on. Each ingredient has it’s own benefits. As for beer, it’s said that beer in soap does the following:

    • The hops in beer (once in soap) help to soothe irritated skin, and contain skin softening properties
    • It’s said to be very moisturising
    • Makes for a multi-purpose bar used for washing your body, hair, or even face (I love this bar for my face)
    • The brewers yeast used in the manufacturing of the beer has antibacterial properties, and may work to fight acne
    • Lastly, beer soap is surely a great conversation starter!

    Cider Body Soap

Cider? In soap? Like, as in the alcoholic beverage?!

Yes that’s correct. Cider soap. Did you know that you can make soap out of pretty much any liquid? Mixed with sodium hydroxide, and some kind of oil/fat. Making soap, to me, is like being a child in a sweet shop. There’s so much you can get creative with!

So, with that said, what makes this soap so special?

      1. The addition of cider makes this lovely and ‘sudsy’. It lathers really well.
      2. This soap is not drying like some can be.
      3. It’s actually a really nourishing bar that will leave you feeling clean and refreshed.
      4. It’s scented with apple harvest fragrance oil, with a base of cedarwood.
      5. It’s made with cider! That’s a good water cooler conversation starter right?!

  • goats milk soap

    Goats Milk Body Soap

Goats Milk Soap – For Sensitive Skin

Goats milk is rich in vitamin A, selenium, and has a high fatty acid profile. This makes is perfect for soap. This soap contains no fragrance or colour, so is very gentle on skin.

    Why is it so good?

    • The high lactic acid content means it gently removes dead skin cells, making it a mild exfoliant.
    • As it helps remove dead skin, this keeps pores clear, and skin smoother and brighter.
    • It’s very gentle.
    • Goats milk soap doesn’t strip the skin of moisture, thus preventing your skin from drying out.

    Natural Baby Soap

At last, a natural soap bar for babies.

Babies have such delicate skin that it can be confusing knowing what to use. When I had my first child I was uncomfortable with the list of ingredients I saw on baby products. This discomfort led to many of the products you’ll find on this website.

Some people use only water in their baby’s bath which is absolutely fine. Others prefer to use some form of cleansing product. If you fall into the second category, yet have sensitive skin, what do you do?

Do you or your baby have sensitive skin?

This bar may be perfect for you. Made for those with sensitive skin or allergies.

    Natural Castile Soap

    Natural Castile Soap

Our Castile Coconut Soap is based on the traditional Spanis

h recipe for Castile Soap. What this means is that it’s as simple as soap gets. It contains as few as 3 ingredients; distilled water, sodium hydroxide, and olive oil. That’s it!

With this in mind, Castile Soap is not designed to produce a lot of lather, so the ‘bubbliness’ of this soap is still less than the store bought soap you would otherwise find.

What Is In This Castile Soap?

This soap contains very few ingredients, and therefore is very mild. As a result, my clients have told me they use this on their face, body, babies, sensitive skin, and even their dogs!

Castile Soap is traditionally much softer than other soaps, but will actually harden over time, making it last longer. Therefore, if you take care to store it properly, it’ll last well.  Whilst some of the scent may dissipate over time, the soap is totally safe to use, and can sit there for years. Have a read of the blog post I wrote on Soap Storage to give you some more background on this.

  • all in one soap bar

Natural Exfoliating Face and Body Bars

Exfoliate! Have dry skin? How often do you exfoliate? DO you exfoliate? If not, maybe now is the time to start.

Did you know there’s an easy way to help you achieve healthy glowing skin?

    How???

Your body is constantly shedding skin, and it’s often not enough to simply wash your body. Using an exfoliating bar will help remove these dead skin cells, unclog your pores, and leave you with smooth ‘new’ skin.

Our bars use natural exfoliants of pumice (for the face & body), poppy seeds (for the body), or coffee (face & body). This way you won’t be allowing little plastic beads to drain into the waterways, nor will you have to buy plastic body puffs. This is one of the most natural, environmentally-friendly ways to exfoliate your skin!

So, how often should you use it? That’s really up to you. Start with once a week, and see how your skin feels. You can experiment to see what works well for your body.

Refresh your skin, and exfoliate today!

  • hemp soap

    Natural Hemp Soap

    Hemp Soap?!

I’m sure many people, on hearing the word ‘hemp’, think of wacky backy/marijuana…or any of the other colloquial names for the beautiful green leafed plant. Hemp seed oil does in fact come from the tall varieties of the cannabis plant. However, it does not contain the psychoactive compound called THC. Hemp seed oil and marijuana are two very different things!

Why? Why would you put hemp in soap?!

Excellent question. Well, you need some form of oil or fat to make soap. This just happens to be a very beneficial one. Hemp seed oil is said to do the following:

    • Possesses powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties
    • Aids in the healing of skin conditions
    • Deeply moisturises without making skin feel greasy
    • Has a light consistency, and is said to be helpful for acne-prone skin
    • Helps to soothe and calm irritated skin
    • The fatty acid profile of hemp seed oil mimics that of our own skin, making it great for all skin types
    • Finally, it’s a great conversation starter! You won’t find hemp soap in the supermarket…

    Pure Castile Soap

    Pure castile soap

Totally Balmy’s Castile Soap is based on the traditional Spanish recipe for Castile Soap. This Soap is not designed to produce a lot of lather, so the ‘bubbliness’ is less than the store bought soap/cleansing bars you would otherwise find.

    It contains (Wait for it):

    1. Olive oil
    2. Sodium hydroxide

    Shaving Soap

    Natural Shaving Soap

So you have a good quality razor. Now all you need is a natural shaving bar to complete your shaving routine. This soap is safe to use on your face, body, and in your hair, so it’s a multi-purpose solid bar of goodness!

    What’s in it?

Our shaving bar has been formulated with patchouli, lavender, and cedarwood. Patchouli is said to be a natural antiseptic with the benefit of protecting wounds, and has been known to help in the treatment of some skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis.

Cedarwood oil is often found in aftershave, perhaps due to the fact it’s known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-septic qualities. It’s also said to fight fungal infections, and help treat acne.

Finally, lavender is naturally anti-itch, anti-bacterial, anti-anxiety, and anti-fungal in nature. Therefore, the 3 essential oils in this recipe are a pretty fabulous combination for your skin.

This bar also contains neem oil as part of the base recipe.

    Neem oil?

Neem oil has been used for thousands of years for it’s medicinal properties. It’s widely used in the garden, as an insect repellent, in medicine, and in skin care. Neem oil is anti-microbial, and works by removing bacteria from the surface of the skin. Therefore, it helps in the treatment and prevention of acne as there’s no bacteria sitting on the skin’s surface. Neem is also said to prevent and treat scars, whilst reducing redness and inflammation.

And now they can have one. With a twist.

What do you use this bar for?

Practically anything. For those who like to keep it simple, you can use this bar:
