$45.00

Totally Balmy introduces the ultimate Charcoal Face Mask Kit!

This kit contains everything you need to pamper your skin at home; A bamboo bowl, spoon, and brush.

Activated charcoal is quite magical, and has been used in the beauty and medical industries for years.

It’s said to be fantastic for oily skin due to its ability to draw out and absorb oil. It acts like a magnet to draw out impurities.

So how do I mix up the face mask?

You need approximately 1 teaspoon of the powder, mix it with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of water (You could also try this with apple cider vinegar). Mix together in your bowl with the wooden spoon (Charcoal and clay are said to pull toxins from metal, so metal spoons are best avoided), then apply with the brush until you have the coverage you’re happy with.

What does it mean when people say the charcoal is ‘activated’? That simply means it has gone through a high temperature, steam activation process. This increases its surface area, whereby increasing the charcoals’ ability to absorb toxins.

You may have heard of charcoal being used internally when someone has ingested poison? That’s due to the fact that it is estimated charcoal can help reduce the body’s absorption of toxins by up to 60%. Wow.

What is Bentonite Clay?

Bentonite clay is great in a face mask, and works well with charcoal. It comes from aged volcanic ash sediment, may help to cleanse and unclog pores, whilst softening your skin. It’s used, in conjunction with charcoal, to help fight acne and problem skin. Bentonite Clay is said to draw out toxins (Like charcoal) and blackheads, helping to kill acne-causing bacteria.

Whilst this is a lovely product to use on the skin, it can be messy! The powder is very light weight, so please avoid mixing your face mask in a breezy area.

This mask can also be a bit drying, so it’ll be trial and error to see what works for your skin. I always wipe some oil over my skin afterwards, and it feels lovely.

Another word of caution; timing. Apply your mask, and set the timer for 9 minutes. Should you leave this on longer than 10 minutes, your skin will temporarily change colour. Fear not! I have done this many times. If this happens, all you need to do is apply a small amount of oil (Olive, castor, argan, sweet almond) to a cloth pad, and wipe away the excess. No harm done.
